Trump Claims He Won “Gay Vote” Despite Low Support in 2024 Election

U.S. President Donald Trump has claimed he won significant support from LGBTQ+ voters in the 2024 election, despite data showing he received only about 12% of that vote.

Speaking during a phone interview on Fox News’ The Five, Trump said he believed he had done better with LGBTQ+ voters than any previous Republican candidate.

“I did great. No Republicans ever got the gay vote like I did,” he said, adding that he felt “very proud” of his performance.

He suggested his use of the song “Y.M.C.A.” by the Village People at events may have helped him connect with LGBTQ+ voters.

During the interview, Trump also made remarks about LGBTQ+ individuals and women supporting Palestine, arguing that such support conflicted with conditions in parts of the Middle East. He claimed that gay people face execution and women face severe restrictions in those regions.

Trump further referenced unverified claims about Mojtaba Khamenei, the son of Iran’s late supreme leader, commenting on rumors about his sexuality.

However, election data contradicts Trump’s claim about LGBTQ+ support. According to reported exit polls, he received around 12% of the LGBTQ+ vote in 2024, compared to 86% for his opponent, Kamala Harris.

In the 2020 election, Trump had performed better among LGBTQ+ voters, receiving approximately 27%, though he still lost that election to Joe Biden.

The latest figures indicate a significant drop in his support within the LGBTQ+ community in 2024.
