A 62-year-old man has been arrested after allegedly stabbing his estranged wife to death at their home in San Juan Capistrano.
Stephen Demaro is accused of fatally attacking Debora Demaro, 59, at the couple’s ranch-style property on Laurelwood Lane in the early hours of February 14.
According to authorities, deputies responded to reports of a disturbance shortly after 6:30 a.m. When officers entered the residence, they found Stephen Demaro suffering from cuts to his arms.
Police then searched the garage, where Debora Demaro’s body was discovered. She had reportedly sustained fatal stab wounds. Stephen Demaro was transported to hospital for treatment before being taken into custody.
Officials said the couple had been living together despite being estranged. No details about a possible motive have been released.
Property records indicate the Demaros had owned the home for approximately 26 years.
Stephen Demaro is being held at the Orange County Intake Release Center in Santa Ana on $1 million bail. He is scheduled to appear in court on February 18.
