Former NFL cornerback Chris Payton-Jones has died at the age of 30 following a fatal car accident in Florida.
The crash occurred on Saturday night in Alachua County, where his vehicle collided head-on with a pickup truck. He was the only person killed, while others involved sustained minor injuries.
Payton-Jones, who played in the NFL between 2018 and 2021, featured for teams including the Detroit Lions, Minnesota Vikings, Tennessee Titans, and Las Vegas Raiders. Over his career, he recorded 48 tackles and seven pass deflections across 29 games.
He later continued his career in alternative leagues, including the XFL and UFL, most recently playing for the St. Louis Battlehawks before retiring earlier this year.
Tributes have poured in from former teammates, coaches, and organizations, who described him as a dedicated athlete, respected teammate, and positive influence both on and off the field.
