Kim Jong Un appeared in newly released state media photographs alongside his teenage daughter at a rifle range, as authorities continue to elevate her public profile amid succession speculation.
According to the state news agency KCNA, Kim attended the event with his daughter, widely believed to be named Kim Ju Ae, and his sister Kim Yo Jong. The leader reportedly gifted a “new generation sniper’s rifle” to senior military officials and personally demonstrated the weapon.

North Korean media published 27 images from the event. An external review cited by CNN indicated that one photograph, depicting the daughter firing a sniper rifle, showed possible signs of AI manipulation, while other checked images did not.
The appearance followed a congress of the ruling Workers’ Party of Korea, where Kim’s leadership was reaffirmed. Kim Yo Jong was promoted to director of a party department, consolidating her influence within the regime’s inner circle. Senior positions were reshuffled, with younger loyalists elevated.

Kim’s daughter stood beside him during a military parade at Kim Il Sung Square in Pyongyang, where thousands of troops marched. She has previously accompanied her father to missile tests and major political events.
South Korea’s intelligence agency stated in February that it believes Kim has entered the stage of positioning her as a potential successor. North Korea has not formally confirmed any succession plan.
