An 18-year-old boy has been sentenced to life in prison after brutally murdering his mother and later boasting about the killing online.
Tristan Roberts carried out the attack in October 2025 at their home in Prestatyn, North Wales. The court heard he had planned the murder for weeks, researching methods, purchasing weapons and documenting his intentions online.
He initially attacked his 45-year-old mother, Angela Shellis, inside their home before luring her to a nearby nature reserve under the false pretense of seeking medical help. There, he killed her with a hammer after holding her captive during a prolonged assault lasting several hours.
Roberts recorded the attack and later boasted about the killing on online platforms, with the court hearing he appeared to take satisfaction in the control he exercised.
Evidence showed he had been active on forums such as Discord, where he shared violent thoughts and outlined plans for the murder. He had also developed an obsession with weapons and violence in the weeks leading up to the crime.
The judge described the killing as premeditated and exceptionally brutal, sentencing him to life imprisonment with a minimum term of around 22 years and six months before parole eligibility.
Angela Shellis, a teaching assistant, had previously raised concerns about her son’s behaviour and sought help for his mental health. Despite this, she was remembered by family as a devoted and caring mother.
