Jason Derulo Says He Will No Longer Be Alone With Women at Work After Dismissed Lawsuit
Singer Jason Derulo has said he will no longer work alone in a room with women, citing the personal and professional fallout from sexual misconduct allegations that were later dismissed in court.
Speaking on In Depth with Graham Bensinger, Derulo addressed a lawsuit filed in October 2023 by aspiring singer Emaza Gibson, who accused him of sexual harassment, intimidation and breach of contract. Gibson claimed Derulo signed her to his independent label, acted as her mentor and supervisor, and pressured her to drink and have sex, allegations he denied.
Derulo said the case was dismissed twice by judges in two different states due to a lack of evidence. Despite the dismissals, he said the accusations caused severe damage to his reputation, cost him brand deals and led to millions of dollars in lost income.

He said the experience has fundamentally changed how he operates professionally, stating he will never again be alone in a room with a woman he works with. He added that public reaction to headlines alone, rather than legal outcomes, was enough to derail his career at the time.
Derulo also rejected one of the more extreme claims in the lawsuit, which alleged he sacrificed a goat in a sexual ritual, calling the story absurd and damaging.
He said the situation made him unwilling to take any personal or professional risk, arguing that false accusations can be made without consequence even after court dismissals.
Derulo noted that he continues to collaborate professionally with Bollywood star Nora Fatehi, who recently worked with him on the song Snake and publicly praised his work ethic. He also shared that his four year old son, Jason King Derulo, listens to and reviews his music before release.
The singer joins figures such as Steve Harvey and former US Vice President Mike Pence, who have previously stated they avoid being alone with women in professional settings.
