Death toll at Iranian girls’ school hit in strike rises to 148

The number of people killed in a blast that hit a girls’ school in the southern Iranian city of Minab during joint US-Israeli strikes has risen to 148, with 95 more wounded, according to the local prosecutor.

CNN has geolocated video from the scene to the Shajaba Tayyiba School, which sits about 200 feet (61 meters) from an Iranian military base.

The school appears to have been previously part of the base, but satellite imagery shows that the two sites have been separated since at least 2016.

Iranian state media previously reported that the number of girls killed was at least 118.

Asked about the strike, CENTCOM spokesperson Tim Hawkins said “we are aware of reports concerning civilian harm resulting from ongoing military operations. We take these reports seriously and are looking into them. The protection of civilians is of utmost importance, and we will continue to take all precautions available to minimize the risk of unintended harm.”
