Donald Trump Praises King but Slams Keir Starmer in Brief Call with Sky News

Donald Trump switched sharply in tone during a short phone call with Sky News, offering warm praise for King Charles III while launching strong criticism of Keir Starmer.

In the five-minute conversation, Trump spoke positively about the King and dismissed concerns that his criticism of the UK government could complicate the monarch’s upcoming state visit to the United States.

However, his tone shifted when discussing Starmer, describing the UK-US relationship as being in a “sad” state and accusing the British government of failing to support the United States during the Iran conflict.

Trump also criticised UK policies on energy and immigration, claiming they were damaging the country’s prospects, while insisting he still “likes” Starmer despite the disagreements.

The exchange highlights growing tensions between Washington and London, particularly over the war in Iran and Britain’s refusal to join US-led military action.

In keeping with his unique style, if he picks up and he’s up for it, he talks. It is, honestly, a bizarre experience.

“Hello?” he said after two rings.
I introduced myself, reminded him we’d spoken last week and asked if he had a few minutes. “Uh-uh,” he said.

I told him I would record the call. He said that was fine but wanted my word that it would not be broadcast. We could quote him but not publish the call.

“OK. Go ahead. Real fast. Go ahead,” he said.
And with that, we were on. Another impromptu phone interview underway.
Why does he take these calls? Why does he not want them broadcast? How did he sound?
