At least 13 schoolchildren were killed on Monday morning, January 19, after a truck collided head-on with a school minibus in Gauteng province, South Africa. The crash occurred around 7 a.m. in Vanderbijlpark, an industrial city southwest of Johannesburg. The privately operated minibus was transporting pupils to several primary and high schools when the collision happened. At least 39 people were killed and over 170 injured after two trains collided in southern Spain on Sunday night, according to authorities. A train travelling from Málaga to Madrid derailed near Adamuz and crossed onto the adjacent track, where it struck an oncoming Madrid-to-Huelva train. Both trains derailed, Spain’s rail infrastructure operator Adif said. The crash occurred about 10 minutes after the Iryo-operated train departed Málaga at 6:40pm local time. Donald Trump is seeking $1 billion contributions from countries that want permanent membership on a new US-backed Board of Peace, according to reports citing a draft charter seen by Reuters. The Board of Peace, unveiled by the White House on Friday, is set to oversee Gaza’s transitional administration as part of Trump’s peace plan for the territory. A turboprop aircraft that went missing earlier on Saturday is believed to have crashed in Indonesia, with all 11 people on board feared dead. The Indonesia Air Transport ATR 42-500 departed Yogyakarta on a scheduled two-hour flight to Makassar, South Sulawesi. Air traffic control lost contact with the aircraft when it was about 12 miles from its destination. There were three passengers and eight crew members on board. Search and rescue operations are underway in the Leang-Leang area, where the aircraft is believed to have gone down.
