The U.S. State Department has announced it is expanding the availability of its limited-edition commemorative passport, which features an image of President Donald Trump on the inside cover.
The special passport, known as the “Patriot Passport,” was introduced earlier this year as part of events marking the 250th anniversary of the United States. It includes commemorative artwork and enhanced design features, with an image of Trump seated at the Resolute Desk above his signature printed on the inside cover.
Initially offered to applicants visiting the Washington, D.C., passport agency in person, the State Department said it is now releasing an additional 250,000 commemorative passports following what it described as strong public demand.
In a statement, the department said Americans across the country will have the opportunity to obtain one by attending designated “250th Anniversary commemorative passport application events,” which are scheduled to take place during August and September at passport agencies nationwide.
The commemorative version is not being issued automatically. Applicants who wish to receive it must apply in person at one of the designated events or obtain a passport through the Washington, D.C., passport agency while supplies remain available.
Those who prefer not to receive the commemorative edition can continue using the standard application process. Applications submitted online, by mail, through U.S. embassies and consulates overseas, or at passport acceptance facilities such as post offices and libraries will receive the regular passport design.
The State Department also noted that applicants requesting a large passport book in person at the Washington passport agency may choose the existing standard design, which does not feature the commemorative Trump artwork.
The commemorative passport was first announced in the spring as a limited-edition release celebrating America’s 250th anniversary. Earlier promotional material featured a different mock-up before the final design was unveiled.
