Sean Combs Denied Bail Despite Acquittal on Major Charges

Sean “Diddy” Combs was denied bail on Wednesday after a Manhattan jury acquitted him of the most serious charges in his federal trial — racketeering (RICO) and sex trafficking by force, fraud, or coercion. However, the jury found Combs guilty on two counts of transporting women across state lines for prostitution.

The guilty verdicts relate to Combs’s former partners, singer Cassie Ventura and a woman identified as “Jane Doe,” both of whom were granted immunity in exchange for their testimony against him.

Despite the partial acquittal, U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian ruled that Combs poses a flight risk and remains a danger to others. He denied a $1 million bond request from the defense, who had proposed home confinement in Miami. Combs will continue to be held at a federal detention facility in Brooklyn until his sentencing, currently scheduled for October.

Cassie Ventura’s legal team urged the court to keep Combs in custody, citing serious safety concerns should he be released. “She is fearful for her life,” her attorney wrote in a letter to the judge.

Prosecutors, led by Maurene Comey, said they would seek the maximum sentence—20 years in prison, 10 for each count. However, legal experts suggest that Combs is unlikely to receive the full term.

The judge is on a bit of a power trip here. 1st time offenders of the Mann Act, no minors involved are almost always granted bail. This bail denial seems extreme.

Combs’ attorney, Marc Agnifilo, asked the judge to consider expedited sentencing, noting his client’s good behavior in custody. “He’s been a model prisoner. There have been no issues,” Agnifilo stated. The judge agreed to review the request on Tuesday, July 8, though he is expected to maintain the October timeline based on his previous rulings.

Following Tuesday’s verdict, Combs reacted emotionally in court. After thanking the jury, he dropped to his knees with his head in a chair, appearing to pray. He then stood, clapped with his family, and tearfully embraced his mother, Janice Combs.

“She’s waited 10 months to see her son free,” a family source said. Janice was seen smiling and blowing kisses as she exited the courthouse with other family members.

Despite the acquittals, Combs faces serious consequences. Each of the two convictions carries a potential 10-year sentence, though the ultimate penalty will be determined by the court later this year.
