How Trump’s ‘Big, Beautiful Bill’ Will Affect Your Income Taxes

House Republicans voted on Thursday to pass President Donald Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill Act, a sweeping tax reform package. The bill was sent to the President’s desk for signature on Friday, July 4.

Described by Trump as his “big, beautiful bill,” the legislation includes substantial tax relief for low- and middle-income Americans and introduces a new $6,000 tax deduction specifically for seniors aged 65 and older.

Key Provisions of the Tax Bill:

    • No Taxes on Social Security or Tips (Up to $25,000):
The bill eliminates federal income tax on Social Security benefits for individuals earning up to $25,000 annually. Additionally, tips earned up to $25,000 per year will also be exempt from taxation, a move aimed at supporting workers in service industries.

    • Permanent Tax Cuts:
The legislation makes permanent the tax reductions initially enacted under Trump’s 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act.

    • $6,000 Senior Deduction:
Americans aged 65 and older will be eligible for a new $6,000 “senior deduction,” which may help reduce or eliminate taxes on their Social Security income, according to reports from The Hill.

    • Broader Tax Relief:
The bill outlines tax cuts for more than 80% of American households beginning in 2026. These cuts are currently scheduled to expire in 2028. Projected tax benefits include:

      • Households earning $217,000 to $318,000: up to $12,000 in tax savings

      • Incomes between $100,000 and $200,000: tax breaks of around $3,000

      • Earners between $75,000 and $100,000: savings of approximately $1,700

      • Middle-income households ($50,000 to $75,000): about $1,000 in tax relief

      • Incomes between $40,000 and $50,000: around $630 in additional take-home pay

    • Child Tax Credit & Standard Deduction Increases (2026):
Beginning in 2026, the child tax credit will rise to $2,200 per child. The standard deduction will also increase by $750.

    Trump Criticizes Democrats Over Opposition

At a “Salute to America” event in Des Moines, Iowa, on Thursday, President Trump expressed frustration with House Democrats who voted against the bill.

“Not one Democrat voted for us,” he said. “Only because they hate Trump. But I hate them, too. You know that? I really do, I hate them. I cannot stand them because I really believe they hate our country, you want to know the truth.”

Despite the sharp rhetoric, the bill is expected to be popular among many Americans, particularly seniors, tipped workers, and middle-income families who stand to benefit from the upcoming tax changes.
