Giant Trump banner displayed at U.S. Justice Department headquarters

A massive banner featuring Donald Trump was unveiled Thursday outside the United States Department of Justice headquarters in Washington, DC, drawing attention to the administration’s imprint on the nation’s top law enforcement agency.

The blue-toned portrait now hangs prominently on the historic Robert F. Kennedy Department of Justice Building, a department long known for maintaining a degree of independence from political influence.

The banner bears the slogan “Make America Safe Again,” echoing the administration’s crime-fighting agenda.

Since returning to office last year, Trump’s Justice Department has faced criticism from opponents who allege that certain investigations have targeted individuals viewed as adversaries of the president. Among the high-profile cases cited are prosecutions involving former FBI Director James Comey and New York Attorney General Letitia James, as well as inquiries linked to Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell and several Democratic lawmakers.

The department, however, has rejected claims of political motivation. Officials argue that recent actions represent a correction of what they describe as prior “weaponization” of federal law enforcement.

Two federal criminal cases previously brought against Trump by former special counsel Jack Smith, one concerning classified documents found at his Mar-a-Lago residence and another related to the January 6, 2021 Capitol riot were ultimately dismissed or dropped following Trump’s electoral victory in November 2020.

Similar banners have also appeared at other federal agencies, including the Departments of Labor and Agriculture, each displaying slogans aligned with administration priorities.

In a statement, a Justice Department spokesperson said the agency is “proud to celebrate 250 years of our great country and our historic work to make America safe again at President Trump’s direction.”
