R&B star Chris Brown has appeared at Southwark Crown Court in London for a plea hearing relating to a bottle attack at a Mayfair nightclub in February 2023.

The 36-year-old American singer, known for hits like Run It! and Go Crazy, previously pleaded not guilty to a charge of attempting to cause grievous bodily harm with intent to Abraham Diaw at Tape, a private members’ club in Hanover Square.

    Court Appearance Amid Legal Proceedings
Brown arrived at the courthouse this morning wearing a brown suit paired with a red and white tie, walking past a crowd of reporters and photographers gathered outside.

His co-defendant, 39-year-old Omololu Akinlolu, a US national, has also pleaded not guilty to the same charge of attempted GBH.

Both men face an additional charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm against Mr. Diaw. Brown is also facing a separate charge for possessing an offensive weapon a bottle in a public place.

    Ongoing Tour Despite Legal Troubles
Despite the ongoing legal case, Brown has continued with his international tour, performing in Cardiff in June as part of a global celebration marking 20 years in the music industry.

He remains on conditional bail, having paid a £5 million security fee a financial guarantee to ensure his return to court, which could be forfeited if bail conditions are breached.

    Details of the Alleged Incident
At a previous hearing, Manchester Magistrates’ Court was told that Mr. Diaw was standing at the bar in Tape nightclub when he was allegedly struck multiple times with a bottle. He was then reportedly chased into another part of the venue, where he was punched and kicked repeatedly.

    Arrest and Detention

Chris Brown was arrested by Metropolitan Police detectives at Manchester’s Lowry Hotel around 2 a.m. on May 15. He had flown into Manchester Airport on a private jet in preparation for his UK tour dates.

He was later released from HMP Forest Bank in Salford on May 21, pending further court proceedings.

    What’s Next

Brown’s trial is scheduled for October 2025. During the recent hearing, his lawyer, Sallie Bennett-Jenkins KC, noted the difficulty in communicating with Brown while he continues to fulfill professional commitments.
