Boy, 15, dies after being stabbed at school

A 15-year-old boy has died after being stabbed at All Saints Catholic High School in Sheffield. The incident occurred around 12:17 GMT, prompting an immediate response from police and paramedics, but the teenager succumbed to his injuries shortly afterward.

South Yorkshire Police arrested another 15-year-old boy on suspicion of murder, and he remains in custody. Assistant Chief Constable Lindsey Butterfield stated that authorities were working swiftly to piece together the events leading up to the tragedy. A heavy police presence remained at the school and its surrounding area following the attack. Headteacher Sean Pender had previously informed parents on 29 January about a lockdown due to “threatening behavior” among a small group of students. However, ACC Butterfield did not confirm whether this was connected to the stabbing.

Floral tributes and heartfelt messages were placed outside the school in memory of the victim. One note described him as the “life of the party” with a “bubbly personality” that brought joy to those around him. Parents rushed to the school to collect their children upon hearing rumors of the incident, with one expressing concern over students becoming panicked. The headteacher later sent a message to parents, expressing “shock and sorrow” over the student’s death and announcing the school’s closure on Tuesday.

The incident has reignited concerns about knife crime in the area. Amaan Ahmed, who runs the Castle Asian Community Trust, noted that the community has faced similar issues before. He fears that the attack will make parents anxious about their children’s safety, not only at school but also in public spaces like parks.

All Saints Catholic High School was rated “Good” in its most recent Ofsted inspection in October 2023, with inspectors praising its “strong ethos of warmth and respect.” However, this tragic event has left the school community reeling, mourning the loss of a young life taken too soon.
