Barack and Michelle Obama were recently spotted enjoying a date night in New York City, putting months of speculation about their marriage to rest.
The former president and first lady were seen leaving The Lowell Hotel restaurant, escorted by Secret Service agents. It marked the couple’s first public appearance together in over six months, fueling interest after Michelle had been absent from several key events this year.
Michelle’s Absence Sparked Speculation
Rumors of marital trouble began swirling after Michelle skipped major public events, including January’s presidential inauguration and the funeral of former President Jimmy Carter. In March, she was also notably missing from the couple’s traditional courtside appearance at the NBA All-Star Game.
On a recent episode of The Diary of a CEO podcast, Michelle opened up about her personal journey and ongoing therapy, which she said is helping her transition into what she described as the “next phase” of her life.

Speaking candidly, Michelle directly responded to the rumors of marital strain.
“If I were having problems with my husband, everybody would know about it,” she said, dismissing claims of trouble at home.
Michelle emphasized that her absence from events was a personal choice, not a sign of discord. She acknowledged that marriage can be challenging, but described her bond with Barack as unwavering.
“I wouldn’t trade it,” she said. “He’s, as the young people say… my person.”
Michelle praised their enduring partnership, noting, “The beauty of our marriage is that neither one of us was ever going to quit. That’s just not who we are.”
