Controversial social media personalities Andrew Tate and Tristan Tate have been arrested in the United States after British authorities approved dozens of additional criminal charges and launched extradition proceedings.
The UK’s Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) confirmed that prosecutors had authorised 38 new charges against the brothers following the submission of further evidence by Bedfordshire Police.
Andrew Tate, 39, now faces a total of 42 criminal charges in the United Kingdom, including seven additional counts of rape, as well as allegations relating to human trafficking and the possession of indecent images of a child.
His brother, Tristan Tate, 37, has been charged with a total of 17 offences, including two counts of rape and three counts of arranging or facilitating trafficking for sexual exploitation.
According to British authorities, the alleged offences are said to have occurred between July 2010 and August 2017. The CPS said the latest evidence increases the total number of alleged victims in the case to seven.
The U.S. Marshals Service confirmed that the brothers had been taken into custody, while a spokesperson for the U.S. Department of Justice said the arrests were carried out as part of extradition proceedings requested by the United Kingdom.
The Tate brothers have consistently denied all allegations against them.
Their lawyer, Joseph McBride, described the new charges as politically motivated and maintained that both men are innocent. He argued that the case was intended to undermine legal action the brothers have filed in the United States and expressed confidence that they would ultimately be cleared.
British police have been investigating the brothers for several years in what investigators have described as a complex and extensive inquiry.
In 2024, Bedfordshire Police obtained European arrest warrants seeking the brothers’ return from Romania, where they have also been the subject of separate criminal investigations.
Earlier this year, Andrew and Tristan Tate lost a legal challenge seeking the identities of their UK accusers after prosecutors successfully argued that the names of the alleged victims should remain confidential until formal court proceedings began.
Lawyer Matt Jury, who represents several women alleging offences against Andrew Tate, welcomed the latest charges, saying the allegations are among the most serious criminal offences and that the case should now proceed through the courts.
The brothers are expected to remain in U.S. custody while legal proceedings over their extradition to the United Kingdom continue.
