President Donald Trump is set to attend the 2026 FIFA World Cup final in person on Sunday, choosing to watch the tournament’s showpiece event from the stadium rather than the White House.
The U.S. president will travel to New Jersey for the highly anticipated final between Argentina and Spain, according to White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, who confirmed the visit during Thursday’s press briefing.
Leavitt described the president’s attendance as an appropriate way to mark the conclusion of a tournament that highlighted the United States’ ability to host one of the world’s biggest sporting events.

While the White House confirmed Trump’s plans to attend the final, officials did not provide details about where he will be seated or whether he is expected to meet with football officials before or after the match.
Ahead of Sunday’s final, Trump is also scheduled to participate in a World Cup-related event at Trump Tower in Manhattan on Friday as part of activities surrounding the tournament.
Trump has regularly attended major sporting events throughout his public and political career, often appearing at championship games and high-profile competitions. His attendance at the World Cup final continues that pattern during his presidency.
The final will see defending champions Argentina face Spain in a match that will determine the winner of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, bringing the month-long tournament to a close before a global audience.
