Boeing has secured a major legal victory after a U.S. jury cleared the aircraft manufacturer of fraud allegations linked to its 737 MAX jets.
The lawsuit was brought by LOT Polish Airlines, which accused Boeing of withholding important information about changes to the aircraft’s flight-control system. The airline sought $153 million in damages, arguing that it suffered significant losses during the worldwide grounding of the 737 MAX fleet following two deadly crashes in 2018 and 2019.
After a two-week trial in Seattle and several hours of deliberation, the jury ruled in Boeing’s favor, finding the company not liable for fraud claims.
The 737 MAX crisis became one of the most scrutinized episodes in aviation history after crashes involving Lion Air and Ethiopian Airlines killed 346 people and triggered a global grounding of the aircraft for nearly 20 months.
While Boeing welcomed the verdict, reports indicate that LOT Polish Airlines may still consider further legal action.
