A historic golden helmet stolen from a Dutch museum has been recovered following a major investigation, authorities confirmed.
The artifact, known as the Golden Helmet of Coțofenești, was taken earlier this year from the Drents Museum during a targeted theft that raised concerns across Europe’s museum community.
The helmet, a rare and valuable piece of ancient Romanian heritage dating back more than 2,000 years, had been on loan when it was stolen. Its disappearance triggered an international manhunt involving multiple law enforcement agencies.

Dutch police announced that the helmet has now been recovered, though details about the suspects and the exact circumstances of its retrieval remain limited.
Officials described the recovery as a significant success, given the artifact’s cultural importance and the difficulty of tracking stolen antiquities once they enter illicit markets.
The investigation is ongoing, with authorities working to determine whether a wider criminal network was involved in the theft.
