Trump Calls NATO “Cowards” Over Refusal to Back Iran War

U.S. President Donald Trump has sharply criticized NATO allies, calling them “cowards” for refusing to support American-led military efforts against Iran.

Trump’s remarks came after multiple NATO countries declined requests to contribute military support, particularly in securing the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global oil route disrupted by the conflict.

He accused allies of hypocrisy, arguing that countries complaining about rising oil prices were unwilling to help stabilize the situation militarily.

The refusal reflects deeper divisions within the alliance. European nations including Germany and France have distanced themselves from the conflict, citing a lack of consultation and unclear U.S. objectives.

NATO members have instead indicated they would only support maritime security efforts after hostilities end, emphasizing de-escalation and adherence to international law over direct involvement.

The dispute adds to existing tensions between the U.S. and its allies, with disagreements already spanning Ukraine policy, trade disputes and broader questions about NATO’s future role.

The Iran conflict, which began with U.S.-Israeli strikes in late February, has escalated into a wider regional crisis, disrupting global energy supplies and increasing pressure on international alliances.
