CAF has fined the Egypt national team $5,000 for refusing to fulfil mandatory media obligations after their opening AFCON 2025 match against Zimbabwe.
In a statement, CAF said Egypt’s players and technical staff ignored the designated mixed zone and walked past waiting journalists without granting interviews. Tournament rules require teams to make players and officials available to the media after every match. CAF described this as essential for transparency and the promotion of the competition.
Alongside the fine, CAF issued a formal warning. Any repeat offence will trigger harsher sanctions. CAF specifically flagged Egypt’s upcoming Matchday Two game against South Africa as one that will be closely monitored for compliance.
CAF stressed that media access is a non-negotiable requirement of the AFCON framework and said it would not hesitate to escalate penalties if Egypt breaches the rules again.
Egypt face South Africa next under increased scrutiny, both for their performance and for their behaviour off the pitch.
