NBC Cancels Snoop Dogg’s New Year’s Eve Special Amid Ongoing Backlash

NBC has canceled Snoop Dogg’s planned New Year’s Eve special following continued backlash over his earlier comments about a same-sex kiss in Disney’s Lightyear film.

The network cited “scheduling issues” as the reason for dropping Snoop Dogg’s New Year’s Eve, which had been slated to air live from Miami on December 31 on both NBC and Peacock.

The rapper, 54, addressed the cancellation in a statement, saying he wanted to prioritize his role in NBC’s coverage of the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy. “Sometimes the calendar gets in the way of the celebration,” Snoop said. “My NBC family and I decided this winter was time for us all to focus on the Olympics. But don’t worry, we’ll party together bigger and better later in 2026. Ya dig.”

The two-hour broadcast had been expected to feature celebrity guests and live performances.

Snoop Dogg’s partnership with GLAAD and his recent release of an LGBTQ+ children’s song titled Love is Love on his Doggyland YouTube series were seen as attempts to repair his image after widespread criticism of his comments about Disney’s depiction of a lesbian couple.

Despite his efforts, the controversy has persisted, prompting growing scrutiny from both fans and corporate partners.
