French President Emmanuel Macron has scheduled an “emergency meeting” for European leaders to discuss President Donald Trump, as reported by another European official.
According to Politico, Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski mentioned the meeting during the Munich Security Conference on Saturday. Two EU officials confirmed that the meeting will take place on Monday.
Sikorski expressed gratitude for Macron’s invitation, emphasizing the seriousness of the discussion regarding the implications of Trump’s actions.
He further elaborated, stating, “President Trump operates through a method known as razvedka boyem – reconnaissance through battle. You push forward and observe the outcome, then adjust your position accordingly. We must respond to this.”
Sikorski, known for his political commentary, hasn’t hesitated to discuss American politics in the past. He once compared President Biden’s debate performance unfavorably to the decline of ancient Rome and even endorsed Trump’s assertion that NATO countries should increase their defense spending.
On the other hand, Macron has maintained cordial relations with Trump since his election in November. In a social media post, Macron expressed his willingness to collaborate with the president-elect.
“Congratulations, President @realDonaldTrump,” Macron’s post read. “Ready to work together as we did for four years. With your convictions and mine. With respect and ambition. For more peace and prosperity.”
In December, when Trump visited Paris to witness the reopening of the Notre Dame Cathedral, Macron expressed great honor in hosting the former president.
“It’s a tremendous honor for the French people to welcome you five years later,” Macron said to Trump. “At that time, you were the president for the first time, and I vividly recall the solidarity and your prompt response. So, we are delighted to have you back. We are very happy to have you here.”
