In a groundbreaking move, The Walt Disney Company has announced plans to open its first-ever theme park and resort in the Middle East: Disneyland Abu Dhabi. Set to rise on Yas Island, this ambitious project marks Disney’s seventh global resort and promises to blend the magic of Disney with the rich cultural tapestry of the United Arab Emirates.
A Landmark Collaboration
Disneyland Abu Dhabi is the result of a strategic partnership between The Walt Disney Company and Miral, Abu Dhabi’s premier developer of immersive destinations. While Miral will finance, build, and operate the resort, Disney’s renowned Imagineers will spearhead the creative design and maintain operational oversight. This collaboration aims to create a destination that is both authentically Disney and distinctly Emirati, offering guests a unique fusion of storytelling and cultural heritage.

Yas Island: The Perfect Setting
Yas Island, already a hub for world-class attractions like Ferrari World, Warner Bros. World, and SeaWorld Abu Dhabi, provides an ideal backdrop for Disney’s newest venture. Its strategic location connects travelers from the Middle East, Africa, India, Asia, and Europe, making it a prime destination for international tourism.
What to Expect
While specific details about the park’s attractions remain under wraps, Disney has revealed that the resort will feature:
-
Immersive Entertainment: Cutting-edge technology combined with Disney’s iconic storytelling.
-
Themed Accommodations: Hotels that reflect both Disney magic and Emirati elegance.
-
Unique Dining and Retail: Culinary and shopping experiences inspired by local and international flavors.

Cultural Integration: Attractions and experiences that celebrate the UAE’s rich heritage alongside beloved Disney narratives.
Disney CEO Bob Iger emphasized the park’s innovative approach, stating, “Our resort in Abu Dhabi will be the most advanced and interactive destination in our portfolio.”
Timeline and Development
The project is currently in its early stages, with design and construction expected to span several years. While no official opening date has been announced, industry experts anticipate the park could welcome guests within the next five to six years.
Economic and Cultural Impact
Beyond entertainment, Disneyland Abu Dhabi is poised to significantly boost the local economy, create job opportunities, and further position Yas Island as a global tourism hotspot.
