Captured Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro arrived at a Manhattan federal courthouse Monday after a highly controlled transfer from a Brooklyn detention facility. Cuba says 32 of its nationals were killed during the U.S. military assault on Caracas that led to the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro. Denmark and Greenland called on U.S. President Donald Trump to end talk of taking over Greenland after he again claimed the U.S. “needs” the Arctic territory in an interview with The Atlantic. Venezuela’s Supreme Tribunal of Justice (TSJ) has ordered Vice President Delcy Rodríguez to assume the powers of acting president following the capture of President Nicolás Maduro by U.S. forces. At least 25 people have been confirmed dead and 13 rescued after a canoe carrying 52 passengers capsized in Nguru Local Government Area of Yobe State on Saturday, January 3, 2025. The canoe was travelling from Adiyani town in Guri LGA of Jigawa State to Garbi town in Nguru when it overturned at about 7:48 p.m. The victims were returning from fishing, farming, and other business activities.
