Nigeria’s presidency has confirmed the release of 21 Chibok girls kidnapped by Boko Haram Islamists in 2014. And also said the Chibok girls were exchanged for four Boko Haram prisoners in Banki. “The release of the girls…is the outcome of negotiations between the administration and the Boko Haram brokered by the International Red Cross and the Swiss government,” a presidency statement said. “The negotiations will continue.” Around 270 girls were taken from their school in Chibok in April 2014. Dozens escaped in the initial melee, but more than 200 are still missing.

The Nigerian Senate has passed the amendment to the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board’s Act #JAMBBill SB. 245 into law. Part of the amendment is the extension of the validity of JAMB UTME results to 3 years. Senate President Bukola Saraki, in appreciating his distinguished colleagues for their work towards the passage of the bill commented that the new amendments will indeed bring financial relief to students as well as parents and reduce bottlenecks and corruption in the admission process.

Thailand’s venerated King Bhumibol Adulyadej, the world’s longest-reigning monarch, has died at the age of 88. King Bhumibol passed away at Bangkok’s Siriraj hospital today. The palace however did not give a reason for his death. He was 88 years old.
