A mother broke the news of her engagement to her 4-year-old son but the little man decided he would have been a better man and revealed he wanted to be the one marrying his mum.
Jasmine Brannan was delighted to share the news of her engagement with her son Asher, after her boyfriend of five months, Ian Faulkner, popped the question on January 12th. She tried to explain the significance of her new diamond ring to her son at their home in Frankfort, Illinois, US, but rather than be happy for his mother, Asher protested.
He said: “But I want to marry mummy!”
Asher remained in a state of denial insisting engagement only means keeping the ring on “all night”. His mother corrected him and told it means that Ian wants to marry her but he still couldn’t understand.
Asher insisted: “But I want to marry you.”
Ian begged him but he said “no” to Ian’s plea to tie the knot with Jasmine, causing the couple to laugh at his sweet comments.
Asher concluded by telling his soon-to-be step-dad: “I’m going to marry my mommy, you will not.”
Jasmine said: “Asher is a charismatic, charming mommy’s boy – he’s the class clown but also wears his heart on his sleeve. After Ian proposed, we had about ten minutes before Asher came crashing in asking questions.
“My bonus [step] mum started recording, because – knowing Asher – she was sure he’d have something hilarious come out of his mouth. Asher’s obsession with marriage came when his father got married in November and it’s sparked his interest since then.”
She added: “Asher has always been a mommy’s boy, I expected a reaction like this out of him, he becomes very territorial over me. He’s my best friend and he knows it. Asher is still convinced that I’ll change my mind and marry him anyway. Despite his reaction, Asher loves Ian and the first time he told him so, it was a very sweet moment. I’ve always thought he was the funniest kid around and it’s incredible to see others witness what a little joy he is too.”
