Kim Kardashian has been awarded €1 ($1.15) in damages by a Paris court, nearly a decade after she was robbed at gunpoint during a traumatic jewellery heist in the French capital.
The symbolic compensation, awarded on Tuesday, September 15, was the exact amount Kardashian had requested and follows last year’s convictions of eight people for their roles in the October 2016 robbery.
Kardashian and her stylist, Simone Harouche, welcomed the ruling in a joint statement, saying their legal action had been about recognition and accountability rather than financial compensation.
“The experience was deeply traumatic, and its impact has stayed with us,” they said in a statement provided to the Associated Press. “Today’s decision is not about the compensation, but about accountability and recognition.”
Harouche, who was present during the robbery, was also awarded €1, the amount she had sought.
Hotel receptionist awarded more than €109,000
The court awarded substantially larger damages to a former receptionist at the Hôtel de Pourtalès, where Kardashian was staying when the robbery occurred.
The former employee received €109,516 ($126,472) after telling the court that the attack had left him traumatised. He had sought €550,000 in damages and interest.
His lawyer, Mohand Ouidja, welcomed the award as a victory.
The Hôtel de Pourtalès itself was awarded €50,000 ($57,741).
Kardashian was tied up during multimillion-dollar heist
The robbery took place in the early hours of October 2, 2016, while Kardashian was in Paris for Fashion Week.
Masked men posing as police officers entered the luxury residence, threatened Kardashian at gunpoint, tied her up and stole jewellery worth millions of dollars.
The reality television star has repeatedly described the attack as one of the most frightening experiences of her life and has spoken publicly about its lasting psychological impact.
The case finally went to trial in Paris in 2025, almost nine years after the robbery. Eight defendants were ultimately found guilty of offences connected to the attack.
Following the convictions, Kardashian thanked French authorities for continuing to pursue the case.
“The crime was the most terrifying experience of my life, leaving a lasting impact on me and my family,” she said at the time.
She added that although she would never forget what happened, she believed in “the power of growth and accountability.”
Tuesday’s damages ruling brings another stage of the long-running legal proceedings to a close.
Kardashian and Harouche said they hoped the judgment would allow them to “move forward and continue to heal.”
