A dietitian has been struck off after a misconduct panel found she lied about her qualifications and clinical knowledge to obtain a senior NHS position in Manchester.
Ifenyinwa Chizube Ndulue-Nonso secured a Band 6 rotational dietitian role at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust in February 2024, despite lacking fundamental medical knowledge required for the job.
A tribunal heard she falsely claimed expertise in areas including cancer, eating disorders and gastrointestinal diseases, creating what the panel described as a “misleading” impression of her abilities.
Evidence from colleagues revealed serious gaps in basic knowledge. She was reportedly unable to explain conditions such as coeliac disease or identify the function of the gallbladder, at one point incorrectly stating it stored urine and was part of the kidney.
Within days of starting the role, supervisors raised concerns after she struggled with elementary anatomy, including confusion about the digestive system.
The Health and Care Professions Tribunal Service found her dishonesty was deliberate and sustained, describing her conduct as “deplorable” and concluding she knowingly exaggerated her competence to secure a specialist role.
She has now been banned from practising as a dietitian.
