British-Canadian actor Kiefer Sutherland has been arrested in Hollywood after allegedly assaulting a ride-share driver.
The Los Angeles Police Department said Sutherland entered a ride-share vehicle in the early hours of Monday, January 12, physically assaulted the driver and made criminal threats. Police said the driver was not injured.
BBC News reported that the 24 star was released after posting a 50,000 dollar bond and is scheduled to appear in court on February 2.
Sutherland has a prior criminal record. In 2007 he was arrested for drunk driving after failing a field sobriety test. He later pleaded no contest to a DUI charge and was sentenced to 48 days in jail. He later described his time in county jail in a 2022 interview, saying it was harsher than prison.
Sutherland rose to fame in films including The Lost Boys, Young Guns and Flatliners before becoming a television star in the early 2000s as Jack Bauer in the hit series 24, which earned him an Emmy and a Golden Globe. He later starred in the political thriller Designated Survivor.
He is the son of Donald Sutherland, the award-winning actor who died in 2024 at the age of 88.
