CAF Investigates Post-Match Chaos After Nigeria Beat Algeria at AFCON

The Confederation of African Football has launched an investigation into disturbances that followed Nigeria’s 2–0 win over Algeria in their Africa Cup of Nations quarter-final in Marrakech.

CAF said it is reviewing reports from match officials, stadium security and media to establish exactly what happened after the final whistle.

Nigeria advanced to the semi-finals after second-half goals from Victor Osimhen and Akor Adams, but tensions rose immediately after the match. Several Algerian players were reportedly furious over what they believed were unfair refereeing decisions and tried to confront referee Issa Sy and his assistants, forcing security staff to step in.

Disorder was also reported in the stands, where some Algerian supporters allegedly attempted to breach security barriers and damaged parts of the stadium.

CAF is expected to release the results of its investigation and any disciplinary actions once the review is complete.
