Lionel Messi has revealed that he recently visited Barcelona’s renovated Camp Nou and hopes to one day return to the stadium to properly say goodbye to supporters.
The 38-year-old Argentine legend, who left Barcelona in 2021 amid the club’s financial turmoil, shared his reflections on Instagram, writing: “Last night I returned to a place I deeply miss. A place where I was immensely happy, where you made me feel a thousand times like the happiest person in the world.”
Messi added that he still dreams of coming back “not just as a visitor but to receive the farewell I never got.”
The former Barcelona captain remains a beloved figure in Catalonia, where he became the club’s all-time leading scorer during a 21-year spell that included 10 La Liga titles, four Champions League trophies, and six Ballon d’Or awards while at the club.
Messi’s message follows his recent performance for Inter Miami, where he scored twice to help the team progress in the MLS Cup play-offs. His comments have reignited speculation about a possible return to Barcelona even if only for a testimonial match to give fans the farewell they have long awaited.
