The couple emerged from the South Portico to the sound of Michael Jackson’s “Thriller,” greeted by a staircase lined with intricately carved pumpkins and festive Halloween décor.

Melania, who traditionally oversees the White House holiday decorations, handed out candy bars and hard sweets to children dressed in creative costumes from superheroes and princesses to a pair of “McDonald’s babies” in a buggy designed as a drive-thru, which drew laughter from both the president and first lady.

In addition to greeting families, Trump autographed copies of his magazine covers for children who requested one.

The event marked a lighthearted moment amid an ongoing government shutdown, which the president later addressed on his Truth Social account.

“[Democrats] want Trillions of Dollars to be taken from our Healthcare System and given to others who are not deserving – People who have come into our Country illegally,” Trump wrote.

“That will hurt American citizens and Republicans will not let it happen. It is now time for Republicans to play their ‘TRUMP CARD’ and go for what is called the Nuclear Option – get rid of the filibuster and get rid of it NOW!”

Despite the political tensions, the evening’s festivities offered a cheerful pause with music, costumes, and candy bringing a touch of Halloween spirit to the White House.
