Liz Truss to address the nation imminently following Queen’s death

LIZ Truss will address the nation imminently following the death of Her Majesty the Queen.

The new PM, who was only appointed by the late monarch on Tuesday, will speak from Downing St tonight.

Ms Truss was the 96-year-old Queen’s 15th and final PM of her record 70-year reign.

In a sombre statement, Buckingham Palace today confirmed Her Majesty Elizabeth II, the longest-serving monarch in British history, had passed away – making her son, Charles, King.

Buckingham Palace said tonight: “The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon.

“The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow.”

The UK was immediately plunged into a state of mourning, with plans for her funeral and a national day of remembrance to be announced in the coming days.

Her passing comes after Prince Charles and Prince William raced to be by the Queen’s side after doctors confirmed they were “concerned” for her health.
